Etsy charges fees on the shipping amount too — a detail many new sellers overlook.
Understanding Etsy Fees
Etsy charges sellers four primary fees on every sale. The $0.20 listing fee is charged when an item sells (the listing itself auto-renews every four months for another $0.20). The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the full amount the buyer pays — including shipping — which surprises many new sellers. The payment processing fee (3% + $0.25 in the US) covers Etsy Payments card processing. If a sale comes through Etsy's Offsite Ads program (Google Shopping, Pinterest, etc.), an additional 15% fee applies — or 12% if your shop earns over $10,000 per year. High-volume sellers are automatically enrolled and cannot opt out.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee and 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee both apply to the full amount the buyer pays — including any shipping you charge. If you offer free shipping, the full item price is still subject to these fees. This is one of the most commonly misunderstood aspects of Etsy's fee structure.
What is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee?
Etsy promotes listings on external platforms like Google Shopping, Facebook, and Pinterest. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and purchases within 30 days, Etsy charges a 15% Offsite Ads fee (or 12% if your shop earns more than $10,000 per year). Sellers earning under $10,000 annually can opt out; high-volume sellers cannot.
How does the $0.20 listing fee work?
You pay $0.20 to list an item on Etsy for four months. When the item sells, a new listing fee of $0.20 is charged to renew the slot. If your listing has multiple quantities, one $0.20 fee is charged per unit sold. Draft listings and unsold listings that expire are also charged $0.20 to renew.
Are Etsy fees deducted from my sales automatically?
Yes. Etsy deposits your net revenue directly into your Payment account, with fees already deducted. You can see a full breakdown in your Etsy Shop Manager under Finances → Payment Account.
