Amazon FBA Fee Structure (2026)
Every Amazon FBA sale involves multiple overlapping fees. Understanding each one — and how they stack — is the only way to calculate true profit before you source inventory.
Fee data based on Amazon US Seller Central schedule as of early 2026. Amazon adjusts fees periodically — always verify current rates in your Seller Central account before making sourcing decisions.
1. Referral Fees
Amazon charges a referral fee on every sale — this is their marketplace commission, taken as a percentage of the total selling price (including any shipping you charge). The rate varies by product category, and a minimum referral fee of $0.30 per item applies in most categories regardless of price.
| Category | Referral Fee |
|---|---|
| Most categories (default) | 15% |
| Consumer Electronics & Computers | 8% |
| Clothing & Accessories | 17% |
| Baby Products | 8% (≤$10) / 15% (>$10) |
| Beauty & Health & Personal Care | 8% (≤$10) / 15% (>$10) |
| Jewelry | 20% (first $250) / 5% (above $250) |
| Watches | 16% (first $1,500) / 3% (above $1,500) |
| Amazon Device Accessories | 45% |
| Automotive & Powersports | 12% |
| Industrial & Scientific | 12% |
| Furniture | 15% (first $200) / 10% (above $200) |
2. FBA Fulfillment Fees
FBA fulfillment fees cover picking, packing, and shipping each order from Amazon's warehouse to the customer. They are charged per unit sold and are determined by the product's size tier and shipping weight. Amazon uses the greater of actual weight or dimensional weight for large items.
Standard-Size Items
| Size Tier | Unit Weight | Approx. Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Small standard | ≤ 4 oz | ~$3.06 |
| Small standard | 4–8 oz | ~$3.15 |
| Small standard | 8–12 oz | ~$3.24 |
| Small standard | 12–16 oz | ~$3.33 |
| Large standard | ≤ 4 oz | ~$3.68 |
| Large standard | 4–8 oz | ~$3.90 |
| Large standard | 8–12 oz | ~$4.10 |
| Large standard | 12–16 oz | ~$4.31 |
| Large standard | 1–1.5 lb | ~$4.76 |
| Large standard | 1.5–2 lb | ~$5.17 |
| Large standard | 2–3 lb | ~$5.55–$5.93 |
| Large standard | 3–20 lb | ~$6.52 + $0.16/lb above 3 lb |
Oversize Items
| Size Tier | Max Dimensions / Weight | Approx. Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Small oversize | ≤ 70 lb, longest side ≤ 60" | ~$9.73 + $0.42/lb above 1 lb |
| Medium oversize | ≤ 150 lb, longest side ≤ 108" | ~$19.05 + $0.42/lb above 1 lb |
| Large oversize | ≤ 150 lb, longest side ≤ 108" | ~$89.98 + $0.83/lb above 90 lb |
| Special oversize | > 150 lb or longest side > 108" | ~$157.98 + $0.83/lb above 90 lb |
3. Monthly Inventory Storage Fees
Amazon charges monthly storage fees based on the cubic footage your inventory occupies in their fulfillment centers. Rates are significantly higher during Q4 (October–December) to reflect peak-season warehouse demand. Fees are assessed between the 7th and 15th of the following month.
Jan – Sep (off-peak)
Oct – Dec (peak season)
Cubic footage is calculated as (length × width × height in inches) ÷ 1,728. A standard shoe box (13″ × 8″ × 5″) occupies roughly 0.30 cu ft — costing about $0.26/month off-peak or $0.72/month during Q4.
4. Other Fees to Know
Aged Inventory Surcharge
- Applies to inventory stored 271+ days
- 271–365 days: ~$0.50/cu ft/month
- 366+ days: long-term storage rate applies
- Assessed on the 15th of each month
- Avoid by monitoring sell-through rates and running removal orders before the threshold
Removal & Disposal Fees
- Charged to return or dispose of unsold inventory
- Standard-size: ~$0.97–$2.89/unit (varies by weight)
- Oversize: higher, based on size tier
- Option to have items returned to you or disposed of
- Useful before aged inventory surcharges kick in
Returns Processing Fee
- Applies to apparel & footwear with above-average return rates
- Charged per unit returned above category average
- Introduced in 2024 to share high-return-category costs
- Monitored per ASIN — high-return products can become unprofitable
- Review return rates in Seller Central regularly
How FBA Fees Impact Your Profit Calculations
On a typical $25 standard-size product, Amazon's fees alone — referral (15%) + fulfillment (~$4.10) — amount to roughly $7.85, or 31% of your selling price, before you subtract the cost of goods or the cost of shipping inventory to Amazon. Sellers who only estimate referral fees routinely overestimate profit by $3–6 per unit.
Storage fees compound this if inventory sits. A slow-moving product stored through Q4 can erase weeks of margin. The best practice is to run your full fee stack — referral + fulfillment + estimated monthly storage + inbound shipping — through the profit calculator before placing a purchase order, not after.
Always include
- Referral fee
- FBA fulfillment fee
- Inbound shipping to FBA
- Product cost (COGS)
Often overlooked
- Monthly storage fees
- Prep service fees
- Amazon Ads (PPC) cost
- Returns rate impact
Watch for
- Aged inventory surcharge (271+ days)
- Q4 storage spike (Oct–Dec)
- Returns processing (apparel)
- Referral fee category changes
