Shopify Pricing Plans Explained

Pricing last verified February 2026. Rates are subject to change — confirm current pricing at shopify.com before making business decisions.

Shopify structures its pricing around three core subscription tiers, each carrying a different monthly cost and transaction fee rate. Understanding how these plans are structured is foundational to accurate profit analysis — because transaction fees are deducted from every sale, their percentage directly compresses your net margin. A 0.4 percentage point difference in processing rate may appear small, but at volume it represents a meaningful shift in profitability. The sections below break down each plan's cost structure so you can factor the right numbers into your calculations.

Basic Plan

$29 / month (billed yearly)

Transaction Fees

Online2.9% + 30¢
In-person2.6% + 10¢
3rd-party gateway2.0%

Key Features

  • 1% back on sales (up to $5,000 in credits)
  • Up to 77% shipping discount
  • 10 inventory locations
  • 24/7 chat support
  • In-person selling via POS

Best suited for: New stores and early-stage sellers with moderate monthly order volume where the lower monthly fee outweighs the slightly higher per-transaction rate.

Grow Plan

$79 / month (billed yearly)

Transaction Fees

Online2.7% + 30¢
In-person2.5% + 10¢
3rd-party gateway1.0%

  • Up to 88% shipping discount + insurance
  • 10 inventory locations
  • 24/7 support
  • 5 staff accounts & POS selling

Best suited for: Growing stores processing higher monthly volume where the reduced transaction rate and improved shipping discounts offset the higher subscription cost.

Advanced Plan

$299 / month (billed yearly)

Transaction Fees

Online2.5% + 30¢
In-person2.4% + 10¢
3rd-party gateway0.6%

Key Features

  • 1% back on sales (up to $10,000 in credits)
  • 88% shipping discount + insurance
  • Enhanced support & 15 staff accounts
  • Global storefront features

Best suited for: High-volume stores and international sellers where the lower processing rate and third-party gateway rate generate measurable savings that exceed the plan premium.

How Plan Choice Impacts Profit Calculations

Your Shopify plan affects profitability through three distinct cost levers. Understanding each is necessary for accurate margin modeling:

  • Monthly fee and break-even volume. The fixed monthly subscription is a cost that must be recovered before any product sale contributes to net profit. At $29/month (Basic), your store needs far less revenue to reach break-even than at $299/month (Advanced). However, as order volume grows, the per-transaction savings on Advanced can surpass the plan cost difference — making the higher tier more cost-efficient above a certain revenue threshold.
  • Online transaction percentage and net revenue. For every sale processed online, Shopify deducts a percentage of the transaction. Moving from Basic (2.9%) to Advanced (2.5%) represents a 0.4% improvement per sale. On a $50 product, that is $0.20 per unit. At 1,000 units per month, it is $200 — which approaches or exceeds the plan cost difference depending on your price point and volume.
  • Third-party gateway rates and margin compression. If you use a payment processor other than Shopify Payments, an additional fee applies on top of that processor's own charges. Basic carries a 2.0% third-party rate; Advanced drops it to 0.6%. For stores using PayPal, Stripe, or other external processors, this difference substantially affects the effective cost per transaction and should be factored into any profitability model.

To model how your current or target Shopify plan affects your numbers, use the Shopify Fee Calculator to calculate the exact processing cost per transaction by plan, the Shopify Profit Calculator to see net profit per unit after fees and costs, and the Shopify ROI Calculator to evaluate return on investment against the plan subscription overhead.
